| Landscape artist, Jack Stern, resides in the scenic mountains of Western North Carolina, in Tuckasegee, North Carolina. With a dedication to craft that spans from his childhood, Jack's paintings seem to capture the "sense of place" and draw comments from his audience that they feel like they have been transported to the location of the lake, mountain top or meadow that Jack has portrayed.

Landscape Artist
Jack Stern's landscape paintings capture the sense of the place. Viewers often comment that they feel like they have been transported to the location - a lake, a mountain top or a meadow.
Encouraged by his grandmother, Jack began oil painting when he was just fourteen years old. Within a few months he started formal art instruction with William E Steinbach in San Diego, California. At sixteen, Jack sold his first painting - launching a lifelong career in art.
Returning to his home state of Colorado in 1976, Jack bought a donkey (LBJ) and built a unique "pack-box" for transporting wet canvases. He was then able to venture into the high Rockiew and enjoy extended plein air painting treks. Jack sold his artwork in a gallery he operated in Silverton, Colorado.
Jack currently lives with his wife in a remote cabin in western North Carolina near the Black Balsam Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Honors & Awards

| Over the years, Jack has received numerous honors and awards, most recently including "Artist of the Year" from the Art League of Henderson County, "Peoples" Choice Award" from the Art League of Highlands, "Best in Oils" and "Best of the Leagues" from The Bascom in Highlands, the "Award of Excellence" in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and the "Award of Distinction" in 2011 from Art in the Park Juried Show in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
